RE: Cedar Point Campgrounds

I thought the facilities at Cedar Point were fine also. I wouldn't stay there except to visit the park. To avoid trafice and get in early, it's great. Add the price of parking and it helps to narrow the gap. The pools were great but the bathroom facilites were too small (not enough). Its not camping, more like bringing your hotel room with you. An added benefit was to be able to take a break in the middle of the day. I would stay there again no problem.

RE: Jayco Jayfeather 29X & Hensley arrow- Your comments?

The other consideration is the weight of the Hensley. If I remember it is heavier thus adding to the load on the TV. I did not see the need to spend the extra $$ and it added to my total weight which was more of an issue for me. To each his own.

RE: Need some serious advice for Yukon TV

We tow with a Yukon XL, total weight for TV & TT and everything else is 14,000lbs. Our trailer is 5,400 dry and the TV loaded with passengers (7 people) gear and gas is 7,000lbs. That left us 1,600 for TT fluids and gear. I try to keep that to 600lbs with 1,000lbs for safety. I assume your capacities are similar so the 4,000lbs would be a breeze. Check your owners's Manuel and go from there.

RE: Sending new TT back to factory

Mold is everywhere but when it gets concentrated inside it exacerbates the issue. In the insurance business if carpeting gets wet we just get rig of it and replace it. If a house with the stucco put on in the 90's develops mold under the siding it is usually a total loss. This unit should be DOA by the description. Demand a new unit and get legal help if they balk.

RE: Jayco Jayfeather 29X & Hensley arrow- Your comments?

While the Hensley is a fine hitch, it is probably overkill for a Jayfeather. I use the equalizer with the cams for sway control and it works great. The set up is easier to tow than our popup was. I have had the Jayfeather for a year now and am quite happy with it (after we got the tank drain rerouted). I guess the proof will be how I feel in 5 years???

Fuel Type

I know that there have been some discussions about mileage and fuel costs but I wanted to start a discussion about the difference between regular and high-test and individual experience. In a discussion with my regular mechanic he recommended using high-test when towing. The benefits would be better mileage and power when towing. A 10% increase in mileage would more than pay for the higher cost with the added power as a benefit. Anyone out there who has tested this?

RE: Upgrade RV Matress?

You could try a foam mattress topper. They have them at Camping World, we got the thinner one last year and it was better but I should have just gotten the two inch thick one.

RE: Suggestions for a Northeast Trip

Niagara Falls is also a great destination. We stayed on the Canadian side and it was great. The Falls and area can occupy 2 days or a whole week. We spent three nights and got most of the highlights. On the way there you could stop off and see the Corning Glass Museum, that's a good halfway stop from NJ. From Niagara you could shoot over to the Finger Lakes or Lake George or head east through Canada.

RE: JayPlus Warranty

They make a ton of money on those deals. Also will the company behind the warentee be there in 7 years? They are not usually issued by well known companies.

RE: Family style seafood restaurants around Myrtle Beach

Sea Captains House--make sure you have a bowl of She Crab Soup Ditto, Ditto and Ditto again. Have and cocktail on the front lawn before dinner too!

Ardell Brown's Quail Run RV Park

Does anyone know about this establishment? It is right off Route 15 in Salt Lake City (Sandy), UT. We will be driving from Yellowstone to Las Vegas and this seems about halfway. It also has the added benefit of being about 14 miles from family that we could stop by, visit and get a free meal. :W Any other nearby suggestions? I checked out East Bay RV Park but that would require about 35 miles back tracking and we are doing enough driving as it is.

RE: Ohio Route 80 EZ on/off campground for one night stopover

Check out this link http://www.ohioturnpike.org/travelers/service_plaza/ for more info on the rest stops. We are planning on using one for our trip west this summer. Does anyone know if they ever get full?

RE: filling toilet

Another tip I got from somewhere else is to dump a bag of ice in the tank just before you hit the road. Then dump at your next destination if possible, at very least it has knocked some solids loose and mixed them up. Hey no frosty jokes now!

RE: Lake George RV Park

We have stayed at both and have no complaints about either. I would say the sites are similar but Lake George Escape's is in a less developed area with nicer scenery. That also makes it less convenient to the local amenities. Lake George RV has regularly scheduled entertainment in the evenings which was fun. Either one is good and your better than average campground.

RE: Where are the FireFlies??

We live in New York near the PA/NJ border and the fire flies come out in abundance in June and July. My kids still love to catch them and when the nieces and nephews visit from the Boston area they love its the highlight of their trip.

Chuckwagon Dinner in South Dakota

We will be in the Black Hills this July and were looking into the Chuckwagon Dinner Shows. The two I found are: Circle B Ranch Chuckwagon Flying T Chuckwagon Supper Show Has anyone been to either of these or have another one to suggest? The kids range in age 5 - 17 so I hope to find something to please all or at very least not totally bore the 17 yr old. :R

RE: Shopping for r 1st TT

I pull with a Yukon XL Denali and have 5 kids. There are not a lot of choices in bunk houses with slide outs that can be safely pulled. The TV fully loaded with Kids, Wife, myself, stuff for a week and a full tank of gas weighed 7,000 lbs. That left 7,000 for the trailer and I do not believe you should use it all. That required finding a TT with a dry weight under 6,000 preferably under 5,500. The choices were mighty small. I saw 4 bunks and a slide in Jayco FeatherLGT, Sunset Creek that were just under 6,000, a Cougar LGT that was just over 6,000 and the Forrest River was just under 5,000. I then found a Jayco FeatherLGT that was discontinued (smaller slide) that was under 5,500. I really liked the Sunset Creek but it was taller (another factor) and loaded would be out of my comfort zone although within TV rating. The Cougar was nice too but again taller and really close on weight. The Forrest River was best on weight but I was not sold on quality. We went with the discontinued Jayco as it was right in my comfort zone but at the trade off of some space in the slide out. Just watch your weight and where you will travel.

RE: Clean Dump.....??

At the end of last season I had the Tornado flush system installed. It beats the wand down the hole and is a lot cheaper. It worked well on the final flush out so I hope for clean living from here on in.

RE: Camper totaled

Speaking as an insurance professional you will not be able to insure the trailer for physical damage. By paying for the full value what's left to in sure? The salvage value is not worth insuring and any reputable company would reject coverage. Here is the deal on losses, yes they count against you but weather related much less so. It is also better to suffer one large loss than several small ones, frequency is far worse. For example the poster whose parents had three losses in 5 years, at some point you should figure out that you are in an area prone to hail damage and take appropriate actions. As to keeping the trailer if it is sound and leak free then it's a good deal. One thing all owners should look at is a replacement cost (RC) option. As we all know anything on wheels depreciates as soon as it leaves the dealer. With RC you can replace new for old usually up to 4 years.
